This book is being created to celebrate the country’s 250th birthday next year and to reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond. The book showcases 6 main characters who came to volunteer in our nation’s capital to participate in 6 areas of keeping America beautiful: Planting Trees, Recycling, Litter Removal, Restoration of Public Place, Clean Water, and Removing Graffiti. While in the park, the children get the chance to visit a new exhibit that talks about the history of America. After their day of volunteering, the students tell their parents about their day and all the families come out to enjoy a festive gathering celebrating the 4th of July in the park. When the children return home, they participate in activities to make their communities better. The book ends with a call to action asking the reader to choose a volunteer activity to make their community beautiful.
